1. Tell us a little about yourself?
In real time, I work for a national bank and the mother of two of the most amazing little people in the world. They are my joy and truly the best thing I've ever done. I was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest., though I have lived in the Southwest and on the East Coast. I keep coming home. I'm a duck heart and soul.
2. Why/how did you get started in making icons?
I started chatting because a good friend moved away, as a way to keep in touch. She made icons and got me hooked. She was also the first person to show me any of the ropes.
3. How long have you been making icons?
I've been making icons for about 2 years.
4. What program (s) do you use?
I use Adobe Photoshop almost exclusively. For animation I use Adobe Image ready and Animation Shop.
5. Do you use filters and tubes? Any favorites?
I use filters some. I'm still playing with them, seeing what I enjoy. The only tubes I use are for sparkles.
6. Do you prefer working with images that are already cut down to size that the person wants or working with the original image?
If given the choice I would rather have the original image. The cut can make or break an image, also it helps you get the feeling of the image better if you have it in tact.
7. Do you like changing backgrounds? Do you prefer to make your own or use backgrounds from the net?
I do like changing backgrounds, but only if it's really needed. I generally make my own, challenging myself and having fun with it. Sometimes I'll integrate a back that I've found online into mine.
8. What kind of images do you prefer to work with?
I don't have a certain type. When finding them for my site, it's simply whatever speaks to me at the time.
9. What do you do when you just can’t seem to get inspired with a specific icon?
If I can't find the inspiration I just close it and walk away, find another mind set, and then come back to it. If you force it, it will show.
10. What are your feelings about animation?
I personally don't use much animation. I think it can take away from the image. The image of the icon should be what speaks to you. That being said there is some very cool things I've seen done with it.
11. Do you have a particular look in icons that you, yourself go for?
I find most of mine are dark red or light brown hair. From there it's whatever mood I'm in, though recently it seems I've been in a bashful mood.
12. Do you use a signature on your work?
No, though I've been considering it.
13. Your biggest pet peeve about icons?
I actually have two. When they are stretched and out of proportion and when the text over takes the image itself.
14. When you receive an order, do you prefer specific instructions or would you rather just go with how the image makes you feel?
I like having instructions, if they have a certain vision. Especially if they want a change to the image. I know that sometimes you don't know what you want, just that you love the picture, so it can be hard to be specific.
15. Are there any colors you like or dislike working with?
I don't have any one color that I dislike, but I love the way blue and red look on black and white images.
16. Are there any images you prefer not to work with?
I find it hard to work with hard core images. I can't seem to find a way to make it look "classy". I've seen others do it but they always seem to look like porn with a word on it. *soft chuckle*
17. Do you find all your own images for your pages?
Yes. It's part of the enjoyment of icons. Finding an image that speaks to you, but also you think others will enjoy. It's a little rush when you find out your right when it's ordered. Good for the ego..*grins and winks*
18. Do you like a challenge in icon making?
I love to be challenged. It helps me grow and learn.
19. If there was only one font you could use, what would it be? How many fonts do you have?
I have 567 fonts at this point. I'm sure that the bug will hit and I'll go in search of more again soon. If I could only use one? That's a hard question. I think each image matches the font, but I think it would be impact. Bold with clean lines.
20. Anything else you would like to add?
I would like to thank everyone. Everyone that has ever ordered an icon from me, made one for me, or simply wore one. It's helped me learn and grow. I would also like to say just how excited I am to be able to part of this group of amazingly talented people.
